Genshin Impact's Ayaka & Traveler's Lore Explanation Makes Fans Emotional With One Of The Saddest Inazuma Story

Genshin Impact‘s Inazuma region has a number of sad stories attached to it, but Ayaka’s lore will definitely leave a lot of fans unsettled. miHoYo has laid a lot of emphasis on lore, and that is one of the most critically acclaimed aspects of the game. With the recent 2.0 Update, we witnessed the arrival of the much-coveted Inazuma region in the game, which was announced in the roadmap a long time ago. Along with the Inazuma region, there were tons of new content added in the form of weapons, items, and new characters, including the likes of Ayaka, Sayu, and Yoimiya. The first banner was released in the game and fans have already got a chance to pull for Ayaka. However, Sayu and Yoimiya are yet to arrive and they will be a part of the game in the next banner. Genshin Impact’s Ayaka & Traveler’s Lore Explanation Makes Fans Emotional With One Of The Saddest Inazuma Story Considering that Ayaka was a new character, we did get a character quest for the same. There have been a lot of theories revolving around Ayaka’s story quest, and this explanation does make a lot of sense and is probably one of the saddest Inazuma stories. This explanation comes from Reddit user u/Ecthelien, who states that he got it after browsing through Chinese forums. Ayaka does have some feelings towards the Traveler, and that has been quite evident in the game. However, it is emphasized that during the Prayer Plaques scene, the Traveler is only thinking about reuniting with their sibling which makes Ayaka believe that they are not meant to be together.

A different take on Ayaka's story I initially thought the whole Ayaka quest was just pandering to waifu stuff and sell gacha, but then I came across an interesting analysis on some Chinese forums which gives an alternate interpretation of the story that I really enjoyed. So I just want to share it here. It is obvious that Ayaka had some kind of crush on Traveler, but then there's more to it. The key scene is the Prayer Plaques, Ayaka wishes for a peaceful and happy Inazuma, while Traveler is apparently only concerned with reuniting with his/her sibling. That is the point when it is shown to us (although still subtle) that Ayaka and Traveler are not meant to be together, and Ayaka realized it. After that, it's the scene where Ayaka gives us that farewell dance. "Please, keep your eyes on me" because she knows one day Traveler will leave her and Inazuma and continue on his/her own path and wish the Traveler to remember her. Then she literally said, "I can see myself the rest of the way back." That scene was for their final farewell, and then we see they continued on their own paths. The whole story was executed as if Ayaka and Traveler are having a date, but then once you get those hidden messages you realize it's just another one of those depressive Inazuma stories. I love it now. There is the famous farewell dance after that, with Ayaka asking the Traveler to keep their eyes on her so the Traveler remembers her when it goes on the journey to reunite with the sibling. The scene ends with Ayaka stating that “I can see myself the rest of the way back.” The post states that the scene seems like a date, but it is just a sad story that showcases Ayaka’s feelings for the Traveler. Fans have been quite emotional after reading this explanation, with many asking for an option to replay the entire scene. There have been many such melancholic stories in the game, but this one seems to hit a different nerve altogether.
